Crowd rallies for immigration overhaul in D.C.
Though Washington is consumed with health care reform, tens of thousands of demonstrators gathered at the National Mall today to rally for new immigration laws. Here are some photos from Associated Press.
The New York Immigration Coalition’s Executive Director, Chung-Wha Hong, said in prepared remarks, “We are almost at the end of our rally. Now the real work begins.”
“To Senators Graham and Schumer, we say thank you for your leadership; to the rest of Congress, we say join them to get legislation done. To President Obama, we say you must lead. We know your vision is grand enough to include an immigration system our nation can be proud of. Take the momentum we’ve generated today and use it to turn your promise into reality.”
