A report out today by the Fiscal Policy Institute measures the role of immigrants in the economic growth of major metropolitan areas. The general conclusion is that immigrants contribute to growth in proportion to their share of the population. The report builds on an earlier one focusing on New York state.
More than a third of New York metro’s work force is foreign-born. Most of the numbers do not break out the undocumented population. Here are a couple of charts looking at the occupations where immigrants are concentrated, and their wages in comparison to those of U.S.-born workers. For the full report (and larger type), go to this page and get the PDF.
