Stepped up federal enforcement of illegal immigrants charged with drunken driving

July
21

It appears that federal enforcement efforts have been stepped up against undocumented drunk drivers.

Since the June 8 crash in Brewster that claimed the lives of a mother and daughter at the hands of a suspected drunk driver who police say is unlicensed and in the country illegally, there have been a deluge of DWI arrests in Putnam County involving illegal immigrants. It seems as though immigration is called with more frequency on these cases.

Here’s one such story I wrote for today’s paper and online. As I was writing it yesterday, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office reported another drunken driving arrest of an Ecuadorian man living in Danbury. A federal detainer warrant was also placed on him.

“Federal enforcement efforts being stepped up against UNDOCUMENTED drivers”.......c’mon Marcela, you make this appear as a profiling issue. You know as well as anybody that this latest incident now represents the fifth DWI arrest of an ILLEGAL alien in our area. On a larger scale, this dilemma illustrates our national state of denial at the multitude of consequences facing us from the loss of the rule of law…from the loss of our sovereignty…from the loss of respect for our own society. On a smaller scale, it now becomes apparent that the only solution to this problem is not an educational approach aimed at addressing the ‘cultural’ aspects of Latino drunk driving as Ana Lopez, a Brewster resident and a case manager with the Westchester Hispanic Coalition calls for, but a sustained and aggressive law enforcement program with ICE being involved at the arrest stage. Only when this community sees federal arrests taking place will this problem cease.

Ed please take notice of Marcela’s last name. She is just another racist Hispanic who sides with hispanics even if
they are breaking the law. I’m sure she is a member of
    LA RAZA also.

ED , I recognize and applaud any and all efforts to correct this serious problem that’s becoming malignant on both the national and town levels, but i have a serious concern that in enacting tuffer laws and regulations in putnam county especially brewster that we may be just swtching venues rather than removing the problem entirely. in reading a number of articles and statements regarding this issue it is apparent that lack of staffing is part of the problem and because of this lack of staffing i feel it should be a paramount issue to authorize as many local and state law enforcement agencies as we can to quell this growing problem
