May 1 immigration rally planned in Ossining

April
30

May 1 has become a rallying day for immigrant rights, and a local march and vigil is planned in Ossining tomorrow night.

“We want to support our community, especially a lot of children in our school district who are not documented and are going through hard times. And not only in Ossining, it’s nationwide,” said Daysi Luz Briones, a member of St. Ann’s Church. Parishioners organized the event under the name We Are Workers – Somos Trabajadores Committee.

An American citizen born in Peru, Briones said, “We feel we need to give back.”

The marchers will call for comprehensive immigration reform, particularly the legalization of college students under the proposed DREAM Act; driver’s licenses for immigrants, and a stop to immigration raids.

The candlelight vigil starts at 6:30 p.m. at St. Ann’s, at 25 Eastern Ave. Speakers from local government and community groups are scheduled to be part of a program at 7 p.m.

The New York Immigration Coalition is holding a march at 1:30 p.m. in Madison Square in Manhattan.

Are you people kidding. You are breaking the laws of our country; you have no right to “call” for anything !!! And, your event name is a misnomer; the proper name is “We Are ILLEGAL Workers”.

What criminal group will organize next?

  3. heatherp

Uh yeah…I will be there…NOT! We have LEGAL citizens here with KIDS who need help, what about them? Yeah I want to support the criminals who crossed the border w/o papers…

  4. red one

Criminals throwing it in our face again- we are the fools for letting these criminals rally in OUR streets- shame on our government

  5. elmsfront

What is this country coming to? People who are here in violation of OUR laws want their rights? These people are illegally in our country violating OUR laws…immediate deportation now! Each day the lawful citizens of this country are having their rights stripped away…i.e.-the right to have competent and responsible representation in their government.

Our federal government and the NY legislature is totally dysfunctional. Lord have mercy on us.

have the deportation buses fueled up and ready to go.

This is no more ‘their community. than my house would be their if they broke in and began living there.
They are workers? What about the fact that are here illegally and on every social program in existence.

I MIGHT more supportive if one didn’t plow into my car tonight.

I am absolutely in favor of major reform of the LEGAL process to gain citizenship. Particularly cracking down on the crooked immigration lawyers who pry on these people who are trying hard to gain entrance for themselves and their families. Until something is done to restrict the tactics of these lawyers who gouge these people, even more will continue to come over illegally with their anchor pregnancies.

These people should be ashamed to have so many children that they can’t afford. Their kids are having a hard time? Give me a break, how about the thousands of black and white kids having a hard time? Go home, fix your own countries, these people disgust me, racists.

My heart bleeds for these immigrants…I was born in this country…I have over a 3.725 undergraduate and graduate index and I don’t have a job. Who the hell is going to help me?

  16. santana

You have over a 3.725 GPA. What exatly is it? Is it a 3.730 or 3.733, that comment sounds like it came from a person witha 2.025 GPA or lower – LOL?
