Police forum brings out arguments against local immigration enforcement

August
25

Last week’s Police Foundation conference took a mostly negative view of the enlistment of local law enforcement in immigration matters, according to reports from the Washington Post and the Austin Statesman.

Police and municipal officials emphasized that it would be harder to solve crimes if they lost the trust of immigrants in their communities.

ICE’s Jim Pendergraph suggested that news reports had blown the issue out of proportion.

Some people talk of fears of terrorizing immigrant communities, but if you’re not involved in criminal activity, you’ll probably never come in contact with these programs …. The media make it seem like if you are out mowing your grass, we’ll snatch you from your yard and arrest and deport you. That is just not the case.

Meanwhile federal authorities are promising more enforcement efforts of their own through an increasing number of “fugitive operations” teams.

  1. Green Card

Participation in the Green Card Lottery program is open for all individuals worldwide who meet these two basic entry requirements.
