August

The Associated Press is reporting that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency is ending its three-week “Scheduled Departure” program. Only eight people participated in the program for illegal immigrants who have received orders of deportation to avoid jail time by turning themselves in to the agency.
“Quite frankly, I think this proves the only method that works is enforcement,” Jim Hayes, acting director of ICE’s detention and removal operations, told the Associated Press on Thursday. Click here for a version of the story that appears today in the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
