Self-Deportation Update

August
21

The National Immigration Forum will host a telephone briefing on Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. with immigration experts on the self-deportation pilot program by the federal department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. On Aug. 5 ICE launched a pilot program called Operation Scheduled Departure, which is designed to encourage illegal immigrants with final orders of deportation to voluntarily “self-deport.” The program runs through Aug. 22 in five cities, Charlotte, N.C., Chicago, Phoenix, Santa Ana, Ca., and San Diego. Panelists for the briefing include Douglas Rivlin from the National Immigration Forum, Joshua Hoyt of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and Jorge Mario Cabrera of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights Los Angeles. To join the press briefing call 866-550-6338 and punch in the confirmation code 4515425. For more information click here for the National Immigration Forum’s web site.
